How to Make Dry Shampoo
If you’re looking for a natural and budget-friendly way to freshen up your hair between washes, this homemade dry shampoo is a great solution.
It’s made with just a few simple ingredients and can be customized to match your hair color and scent preferences.
Why Use Homemade Dry Shampoo?
Store-bought dry shampoos can be expensive and often contain ingredients you may not want on your scalp. This DIY version is not only affordable, but it also lets you control exactly what goes into it. Plus, it works just as well at absorbing excess oil and giving your hair a quick refresh.
What You’ll Need
This recipe makes about 2 ounces of dry shampoo.
Ingredients Needed
2 tablespoons arrowroot powder
Cacao powder (amount varies based on hair color)
1 drop essential oil (optional)
Airtight container for storage
How to Make Dry Shampoo
Step 1: In a small bowl, combine the arrowroot powder and cacao powder.
If the mixture is clumpy, use a coffee grinder to blend it until smooth.
Step 2: Add one drop of your favorite essential oil and stir well.
Step 3: Transfer the mixture into an airtight container for storage.
How to Use
Dip a makeup brush into the powder and lightly apply it to the roots of your hair. Let it sit for a few minutes, then brush or blend it through to absorb the oil.
Tips and Variations
Essential oils are completely optional. If you choose to use one, rosemary is a great option for promoting healthy hair.
Adjust the amount of cacao powder based on your hair color. For dark blonde hair, about ½ tablespoon works well. For very light blonde hair, you may want to skip the cacao entirely.
If you don’t have arrowroot powder, corn starch can be used as a substitute.
This easy dry shampoo is a simple way to stretch time between washes and keep your hair looking fresh without spending a dime on store-bought products.
